EXAM TIPS

Before Exams

1.       There is no need to change the method of studying you have followed till now in your school.

2.       This means if you have focused only on studying the important topics, you can continue using that practice and succeed in your exams.

3.       Read the first chapter of any text book carefully because this forms the base of all the topics that would be covered throughout the book. This chapter must be understood correctly.

4.       If you have less time, then read only the first paragraph (which covers the principle) of each topic and memorize it.

5.       While studying a topic, follow these steps–

a.       Read the principle or the purpose (gives you 3-4 lines)

b.      Memorize the diagram, and all its components. If it is a diagram of a machine, then learn all the parts. (gives you 1 page)

c.       Read about the properties of these components. (gives you around 1 pageif you write even 2-2 lines for each component)

d.      Read about applications of this principle. (gives you 3-4 line)

e.      Read 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages. (gives you 7-8 lines)

f.        Learn if there is any formula in this topic. (gives you have 5 more lines)

g.       So you have around 3 pages of matter to write. Believe me this is more than sufficient to pass the exam if you can do this for all the questions.

6.       Keep all the stationary items, hall ticket, ID, etc. in safe place.

7.       If for any reason you are feeling bored of studies, then try to buy new pen or pencil or register or anything that you like. This will help you improve your mood.

8.       If for any reason, your mind is focused on some personal issue that is hampering your studies, then take your time and resolve it first. Unless it is resolved, you will not be able to concentrate on your studies.

9.       Take a print out of notes from www.houseofnotes.com or email them to your id so that you can check them anytime, anywhere.

10.   There is no need to worry about practical files. You can note them from here and write in your files.

11.   If you have any project in this semester, you can download the project report free of cost.

12.   Lastly, you can pass the exam if you study only one week before your exam.

During writing the exam

1.       Before starting to write, spend 5 minutes in analyzing which questions will you target and what points you need to cover in those questions.

2.       Try to attempt as many numerical as you can. Even if you don’t know anything about the numerical, you can at least guess the topic related to this numerical. Try to recall any formula from that topic and write it. If you can guess the values from the question, enter those as well. Very few students attempt numerical and if a student attempts all the numerical, it gives good impression on the examiner. Please note that I am talking about attempting the numerical. I am not saying that you solve the numerical completely. Also he will take less time to evaluate your copy so he will be happy. And happy examiner means more marks.

3.       Believe me, if you attempt all the numerical, no matter you know them or not, your chances to pass will increase many times.

4.       Write what values are given in the numerical under a heading “Given” and what is expected.

5.       Write in points.

6.       Spend at least 10 minutes to underline and highlight any important point that you want to write. But better will be if you can underline as you write. Highlight using other ink. E.g. if you are writing with blue ink, then highlight using black ink. If you don’t know any important point, then just write few important headings like “Principle”, “Construction”, “Application”, “Features”, etc. and write something under these headings.

7.       Leave spaces for margin on the left and right side of every page. You can do this activity before the question paper is given to you. This is helpful because this is the place where the professor checking your answer sheet will write the marks. So it will be easier for him to count the marks at the end and there will be no mistakes.

8.       Clearly demarcate after a question ends. E.g. draw a line with black ink after every question ends.

9.       Leave 2-3 lines after every question.

10.   Draw diagrams for each question.
